... Breitenstein's main theme is the perception of everyday reality. The objects he focuses on include cities, streets, sign systems, billboards and other advertising media, newspapers and architectural objects. Breitenstein photographs and reconstructs reality.

... Breitenstein takes insights from American conceptual art and the way the latter frames the issue of by order and disorder... [...]. However, by focusing perception on an experience of everyday reality, Breitenstein uncovers completely different domains than those afforded by Lewitt's closed system. The latter's "linear" method is juxtaposed here to an open approach which does not present itself but is rather "absorbed" in the respective area of the everyday world experienced.
